Detroit Lions Training camp preview WR

Starter:

Calvin Johnson 7th year 92 games 87 starts 488 7976 54 rec 7 more years on contract
2013 Cap Hit: $8,772,000
W/L 27/56

After setting the NFL record for receving yards in 2012 mega tron is back for an encore. He ranked # 4 by PFF in 2012 after # 1 in 2011. HE was targeted 200 times in 2012 double that of next guy (Pettigrew). Calvin did drop 14 passes 2nd on the team.

Nate Burleson 11th year 4th in Detroit 36 games 30 starts  155 rec 1623 11 td rec 2 years on contract
2013 Cap Hit: $4,031,641
W/L 18/19

A broken leg at Chicago derailed Nate's 2012. The good: Nate was still able to make tough catches in traffic. The bad: He averaged under 10 yads a reception playing opposite of Mega. He ranked # 68 last season and #109 in 2011. Took a pay cut to stay in Detroit.

Slot Guy:

Ryan Broyles 2nd year 10 games 3 starts 22 rec 300 yards 2 td 3 years left on contract
2013 cap hit: $835, 955
W/L 2/6

Started slow in 2012 after a college ACL tear. He caught on after the loss of Nate but torn the other ACL. Broyles shoed the ability to get open and catch the ball. The Lions need his aility in the middle of the field.

Back Ups:

Mike Thomas 5th year 2nd with Detroit 9 games 1 start 4 rec 21 yards 1td 3 years left on contract
2013 Cap Hit: $1.5 mil
W/L 1/8

After being acquired in a trade with the Jags for a 2014 4th round pick, Thomas struggled in Detroit. He showed little ability to play outside. Targeted 12 times and had 3 drops. Now he has time in camp to get used to the offense and time up with the QB. Could be the primary return man and back up slot guy. This is a questionable trade at this point, Thomas was the lowest rated player by PFF at the time of the trade.

Kris Durham 3rd Year 2nd year in Detroit. 8 rec 125 1 td 1 year left on contract
2013 cap hit $555,000
W/L 0/4

A late addition off of waivers from Seattle. Spent much of the year on the practice squad. Made a splash vs. the Pack but did little after that. 21 targets 8 rec 1 drop. Showed ability to catch but little separation. I would be surprised if he made the team.

Corey Fuller rookie 6th round pick 4 years on the contract
2013 Salary Cap: $435,775

A big, fast kid from Va Tech. Showed ability his senior year and at the EWSG. Limited experience and raw. I think the Lions keep him on the roster. Developmental guy.

Patrick Edwards 2nd year 4 rec 31 yards preseason 2 years contract
Cap hit $418,334

A guy receiving a lot of hype this spring. Ultra productive at Houston but really struggled in the preseason last season. Ended up hurt on the practice squad but was resigned. I feel that is were he ened up again. A strong preseason could win him a spot.
