Detroit Lions promote G Rodney Austin and release TE Kellen Davis

Lions have promoted G Rodney Austin to the 53 man roster. Rodney will be the main the back up in the interior. Austin made the 53 late in 2013 but struggled in the preseason. Injuries to Warford, Hilliard and Reiff made this move happen. Add in that Dom and Sims have been awful, it was time to give Rodney a shot.

Here is a tribute:

Rodney with the Dan Gerberry chain
Lions release TE Kellen Davis. Kellen will be best remembered for his hustle vs. the Dolphins. He chased down a blocked field goal making a tackle.

Good luck Kellen

Detroit Lions destroyed by the Pats 34-6, lose 1st place

Lions fall out of 1st place with a loss to the Pats

Here is what I learned in this game:

Vaughn has struggled
Cassius Vaughn is awful. Tom went after him relentlessly all day. Injuries to Chris Houston, Dwight Bentley and Nevin Lawson have force the Lions into playing Vaughn. Lions released Danny Gorrer who now plays for the Ravens. The Lions are in trouble at the nickel once again.

Time for Rodney?
The offensive line is abyssal. Reiff lasted 1 play, Warford and Hilliard already out. Dom and Sims are awful, Waddle is barely an NFL player. Lucas is an UDFA who is not close to ready. Michael Williams and Rodney Austin are on the practice squad but they suck too.

Prater is 3rd Lion kicker in 2014

Special Teams suck. Field Goal kicking is poor. Cannot cover kicks. Return game is brutal.
Ebron has is a complete bust
Eric Ebron ranks as the worst Lions draft pick since Big Mike Williams. We knew he could not block and would drop a few but he cannot play in the NFL. The Lion TE position is the worst in the NFL.

Levy is a beast
DeAndre Levy is great. He struggles in coverage once in awhile but he hammers folks on the run.

Calvin is on the decline
Calvin's run as an elite receiver is over. He cannot separate from defenders or catch the ball in traffic. His missed time in games and especially practice have hurt him.

James has been a bright spot
The Lions might win and a game or two because of the D-Line and Levy. The safeties are not bad and can make plays. The offense and special teams are among the worst in the NFL and will cost us down the stretch.

Pick on Thursday: Bears

Detroit Lions lose once again at Arizona 14-6

Lions looked like the Lions of old today. Penalties ( a bad one by Julia Stanford), falling behind early (14-0), getting shafted by the refs (2 bad spots and a bad call on the punt return) and forcing the ball to Calvin (2 targets of Golden).

Here are the scenes:

Joquie had 85 yards rushing 30 receiving

Josh Bynes had this Pick, 4 tackles and PBU
Cassius Vaughn had this pick, 2 tackles and PBU.
He struggled on the 1st 2 drives

Don Carey had 2 special team tackles

Jeremy Ross had 1 catch 7 yards.
He was shafted on this punt return by the refs

Former Lions 2nd round pick
Drew Stanton
had a career high 21/32/2 306 2td
Lions are tied for 1st and travel to New England for another loss.

Eagles 58-37

In 2006, Artose Pinner
has 125 yards and 3 tds at Ford Field
Vikings 30-20

Joey
 Thanksgiving 2006
Dolphins 27-10
