Here are the Lions priorities as of this moment for 2013:
Re-sign:
1. Sammie Hill
Beast at the end of the season. Replaces Corey in the lineup. We need to lock him up for 3-4 years.
2. Lawrence Jackson
LoJack is a productive player when healthy. We should lose Avril and KVB is old. LoJack would slide into the starting lineup.
3. Louis Delmas
WMU grad, Delmas could move up this list. He needs to stay healthy and make big plays. His skill set as far as tackling and coverage is there, he just has to produce. Having a legit NFL safety next to him would help. The cast of Kalvin Pearson, Marvin White, Marquand Manuel, Ko Simpson, CC Brown, Amari Spievey, John Wendling, Chris Harris and Vincent Fuller have not cut it.
Re-sign at our price:
1. Justin Durant
His salary is $1.75 mil this season. Two year $3 mill would be okay.
2. Chris Houston
His salary is $3 mil this year. That is about right. I am sure he will search for an Eric Wright type deal.
3. Corey Williams
At age 32, $4.9 mil for the salary this season. I could re-sign him for about $1 mil per year.
Let them walk
1. Cliff Avril
Demanding more than $10 mill a year. Not going to do it. Let him walk take the draft pick. Use the $$$$ to sign Sammie and LoJack. Led the Lions with 11 penalities last season. Had the most personal fouls in the NFL 2010-11.
Goz as this point should be replaced by the some of the young talent.
3. DeAndre Levy
Struggled greatly in his move to will. He was bad in coverage and showed limited range against the run. Is probably an inside backer in the 3-4.
4. Alphonso Smith
Jumps routes, wont cover deep. Attitude is a question. Let him walk.
Restricted free agents
Willie Young
Jason Fox
Amari Spievey
Keiland Williams
