Camp preview CB updated

The most scrutinized position on the Lions for good reason. Now with the loss of Aaron Berry and injury to Greenwood, the Lions must rely on rookies Bentley and Green.

Chris Houston

6th year 28 starts 110 tackles 26 PBU 6 picks

CH23 had has best season as a pro in 2011. He was injured late in the season and could barely play in the playoff loss with a dislocated shoulder. I did not see him at the OTA. He is in the last year on his contract and should have a good year. Last season, he led the Lions CB with a 65% success rate vs. the pass and 12 PBU.

Atlanta Falcons 44 games 3 int 34 PBU 166t
Arkansas 70t 3 int 3 ff

Jacob Lacey

4th year Free agent

Not tendered by the Colts, Lacey signed a one year deal to replace nickleback Eric Wright. Lacey is a strong tackler but suspect in coverage. According to Pro Football Focus, he gave up 73.5% of pass targeted at him. 65th in the league. Moving inside should help him, I hope.

Colts 43 games 28 starts 212 t 5 int 2 td 3ff
Oklahoma State 172 tackles 7 int 35 PBU

Alphonso Smith

4th year 23 games 11 starts 67 tackles 8 picks 2td

A gambler and big play artist, Alphonso Smith is back. Smith sits on every underneath route and will not play the deep ball. He had two picks against the Vikings but late in the game he was burned on a double move. The ball sailed out of bounds and Spievey was yelling at Smith. The Lions would love to get rid of him but they may need him. His success rate was 58% vs. the pass.

Denver Broncos 15 games 12t 3 PBU
Wake Forest 188 t 21 int 4td 61 PBU 24/182/1td pr

Dwight Bentley

Rookie 3rd round Louisiana-Lafayette 232 tackles 7 int 26 PBU

After a strong senior bowl, Bentley rose to the third round. Small but tough he ran a 4.43 at the combine with 13 reps 35.5 vj  906 broad 4.5 20 6.99 l drill. He will challenge Lacey in the slot and could be a gunner on the punt team.

Chris Greenwood

Rookie 5th round Albion 27 gs 62 t 13 int 4 td

Superior athlete from Detroit. Blew up Michigans pro day with a 4.41 40 43" VJ 1102 Broad.  At 6'1" 193. he did a 4.15 20 6.99 l drill as well. Will need time to develop and missed a lot of OTA time with injury. WIll probably miss the first part of the season due to injury to his abs.

Jonte Green

Mr. C hangs with Jonte at the OTA
Rookie 6th round pick New Mexico State 217 tackles 2 int 32 PBU

5'11" 191 lbs. guy with 4.4 speed is worth a look. He came out of the regional combine system and earned a shot with the Lions with 15 reps 32.5 vj 1000 broad 4.31 20  7.26 l drill. I have him headed to the practice squad but could make Smith a cut.

Dontrell Johnson

#43 Johnson with the Jags
Rookie UDFA Murray State 18 g 3 int 1 td 25/504/2 PR
Picked up of waivers from the Jags, Johnson is known for his return skills. Small at 5'9" 176 he ran 4.45 at the pro day 37.5 vj 1005 Broad. He will fight it out for a practice squad spot.

Starters: Houston, Smith
Slot: Bentley
Back Ups: Green, Coleman, Lacey
Practice Squad: Weaver
PUP: Greenwood
