Detroit Lions advanced stats report card offense

QB

Matthew Stafford

Stafford with Knowshon Moreno and friend
Ranks:
Pro Football Focus: #11
Football Outsiders: #8
ESPN QBR: #14
NFL: #21

Stafford has been average this season. Costly turnovers and dropped passes (37) have plagued him this season. He has played much better outside the pocket this season. He has made plays with his arm and legs.

RB

Mikel LeShoure

LeShoure returned from an achilles inury and eating marijuana

Has improved of late. Starting to make more tacklers miss (9) and his cuts have are more decisive. Still, not an elusive player and an average receiver.

Joique Bell

Joique tries to score vs. Chicago
A real find. Runs very hard and good in the pass game. Leads the Lions with 18 broken tackles and is 6th in the NFL in receving yards for a RB. Needs more playing time.

Kevin Smith

Smith scores the winning TD vs. St. Louis
Average player who can pick up the blitz. He has more drops (3) than broken tackles (2) this season.

WR

Calvin Johnson

Calvin with the Dee Brown jam
Still a great player. Can make every catch. Has struggled with injuries and drops (10). Has picked the TD total of late and is up to 4.

Titus Young

Titus in better times
In a long line of Lion WR busts (Charles Rogers, Mike Williams, Derrick Williams, Mark Nichols, Mike Friede, Ray Roundtree and John Ford) Young seems to have taken his place. Has struggled to get open and catch the ball. An attitude problem with violent outbursts, his future is in doubt.

Ryan Broyles

Broyles replace Titus
Good slot receiver with a feel for getting open. He will improve as he continues to come back from an ACL injury.

Nate Burleson

Broken leg
Was solid before breaking his leg. Made some big catches on thrid down. He is likely a salary cap cut in the offseason.

Mike Thomas

Thomas with his 1st Lion TD
After struggling in Jacksonville, Thomas was picked up by trade. He has quickness and speed. He is not a polished receiver and will need a training camp for a true evaluation.

TE

Brandon Pettigrew

Bobbles
A dismal year. Cannot catch (15 drops) and when he does he fumbles (2 lost). Has blocked a little better of late. He cannot be trusted in important situations.

Tony Scheffler

Scheff leaps this Texan
An up and down year. Good game vs. Houston after a horrible showing vs. the Pack. Still does not have a TD.

Marty, Jeff, Matt and bubbles
Good year pass blocking (3 sacks in 462 dropbacks) bad run blocking year (3 good blocks). Injury put him on the bench.

Gosder Cherlius

Schwartz tells Gos JJ kicking your butt
played well until meeting JJ Watt. Has given up 5.5 sacks. Intersting decision whether to bring him back next year.

Riley Reiff

Martin, Jim, Riley and Tom
Struggled as a left tackle. 5 QBH and 4 penalities. Showed ability in the Houston game. Could be a good player down the road.

OG

Rob Sims

Sims knocks around Jared Crick
Played at a Pro Bowl level but play has fallen off the last 3 games. Leads the Lions in missed blocks (19) but has only surrended 1 sack.

Stephen Peterman

Up and down year. Good run blocking (33 good blocks) bad pass blocking (9.5 sacks 13 QBH)
Introduced Kid Rock to Coconut moonshine.
