Detroit Lions Martin Mayhew draft results 2012, 2011

Mayhew, Schwartz, Tom
22-41 together

2012

Riley Reiff Round 1 Pick #23 15 Games 7 starts

Reiff looks like a solid pick. He can play right tackle and maybe left tackle. He will not be a pro bowl player but likely a starter for awhile.

Grade B-

Ryan Broyles Round 2 Pick #54 10 games 3 starts 22 rec 300 yards 2td

Gamble pick, Came off an ACL at Oklahoma and had another one in Detroit. This pick really hurt us.

Grade: D

Dwight Bentley Round 3 Pick # 85 4 games 3 starts 15 tackles

Good pick on paper. Bentley played well in the senior bowl and has the speed. Lacks any ball skills and was penalized at an astounding rate. Hurt his shoulder and had a concussion.

Grade C-

Ronnell Lewis Round # 4 Pick # 125 Games 8 2 tackles

A college outside linebacker drafted as a DE, I did not work. Counted on to be a great special teams player, it did not happen. His future is in doubt.

Grade: F

Tahir Whitehead Round # 5 Pick # 138 Games 13 9 tackles

A college rush end asked to play linebacker. Has come on special teams and drew praise from Gunther in camp. The bad news is he could not beat out Levy, who is the worst OLB in the NFL.

Grade: C+

Chris Greenwood Round 5 Pick #148

Small college out of Albion who was injured in an OTA, missing he entire season. Good size and speed ratio but little experience.

Grade: D-

Jonte Green Round # 6 Pick # 196 14 games 5 starts 29 tackles 1 int

Pressed into service when everyone else was injured. He played okay. Was a disaster early in coverage and on special teams. Both KOR TD were right at him. Had a tough game vs. Atlanta but seems to have an NFL future.

Grade: B-

Travis Lewis Round # 7 Pick #223 12 games 4 tackles

Solid special teams player with little upside. Lacks NFL speed to play LB. Intense player who will work hard.

Grade B

2011

Nick Fairley Round # 1 Pick # 13 23 games 7 starts 6.5 sacks 49 tackles 2 FF

Injuries killed his rookie season, drugs and being out of shape hampered his early 2012 season but after the bye was one of the best defensive players in the NFL. Ranked #5 at DT on PFF website. If he can stay out of trouble and healthy is a true building block for the future.

Grade; B+

Titus Young Round # 2 Pick # 44 26 games 18 starts 81 rec 990 yards 10td

A risky pick that did not pan out. He flaked out and left us in big trouble on offense. At his best he can make tough catches on thrid down and the red zone. Rarely at his best. A complete bust.

Grade: F

Mikel Leshoure Round # 2 Pick # 57 13 starts 200-741 9td 31 rec 194 yards

Wiped out 18 games due to injury and dope. Came back and has not been effective. The least elusive back in the NFL according to PFF. Has also lost 3 fumbles this season.

Grade: D+

Doug Hogue Round # 5 Pick # 157 8 games 2 t

A converted RB but could not make the transition to LB. Made little impact on special teams and was beaten out by Travis Lewis.

Grade: D

John Culbreath Round # 7 Pick # 209

Busted for dope, released. The story of the Lions offseason.

Grade: D (For Dope)
