Detroit Lions Report Card Wide Receivers/Tight Ends

Calvin Johnson 84/156 1492 yards 12 td 8 int targets 59 1st downs 17 drops 13 broken tackles
Rankings: PFF #4, FO #6
6 years left on contract

Disappointing end of the season for Calvin. Injuries limited his effectiveness down the stretch. Drops became a problem he had 17 in 156 targets in 2013. in 2012, 14 in 200 targets. If he can came back healthy in 2014 he can still be one of the best receivers in football.

Nate Burleson 39/52 461 yards 19 1st downs 1 td 5 drops 2 int targets
Rankings: PFF #92, FO #59
1 year left on contract

Another injury riddled season for Nate. A broken leg in 2012 and a pizza induced broken arm in 2013. He still can get open but lacks the expolisve plays needed opposite of Calvin. Has already stated he will take a big pay cut to play for Detroit in 2014. I think he has a role and should be a good mentor to the young guys we will bring in.

Kris Durham 38/84 505 yards 2 td 25 1st downs 2 int 10 drops.
Rankings PFF 109/111
Restricted Free Agent

Terrible 2nd half for Durham. Could not get open and dropped passes at an alarming rate. Cannot see how he will be in the NFL next year.

Jeremy Ross 5/9 59 yards 1 td 1 drop 6 1st downs 1 int
Rankings PFF # 3 as a returner
Restricted Free Agent

Picked up from Green Bay and made a instant impact. Showed some ability as a receiver but is a big time return man. It will be interesting to see if he can develop in the new offense.

Kevin Ogletree 13/25 200 yards 1 td 2 drops 9 1st downs
Free Agent

Quiet all year until the 2nd half of the Vikings game. Showed some ability to get open and make people miss in the open field. Made a case to be in an NFL camp in 2014.

Ryan Broyles 8/14 85 yards 4 1st downs 3 drops
2 years left on contract

3rd year in a row with a devasting injury. 2 ACL and blown achilles. Future is in doubt as he looked terrible in his return. Another Mayhew WR bust.

Patrick Edwards 5/11 46 yards 1 int 1 drop 2 1st downs
1 year on contract

Here is guy who can get open but is not on the same page with Stafford. He will get his last chance in 2014.

Tight Ends

Brandon Pettigrew 41/60 4165 yards 6 drops 123 1st downs 1 int 20 good blocks 19 missed blocks
Rankings: PFF 55/64, FO 48/51
Free Agent

Quiet year for Grew. Production dropped from previous years and has proven not to be a top tier TE and the new coach will have to make a decision. I think the Lions need to move on with someone other than Grew.

Dorin Dickerson 2/5 34 yards 2 1st downs 2 drops
Free Agent

I thought this guy might have a chance but the concussion drop and penalty late in the Giants game probably ended his run in Detroit. He has a skill set,  he can lead block and get open.

Joseph Fauria 19/34 220 yards 7 td 10 1st downs 2 interceptions
Rankings PFF #12 FO #18
2 years left on contract

Great find from the UDFA pool. He made an instant impact in the red zone and his role expanded late in the season. Has an upside to be a starting TE in the NFL.

Michael Williams  Injured Reserve
2 year left on contract

The Lions needed this guy in 2013. He suffered a broken hand in the preseason and missed the whole season. Has a future because he is a big guy with soft hands. I think he will play a role in 2014.

Matt Veldman
Resticted Free Agent

Ended the season on the active roster. WIll get another shot in camp but is long shot to make it. Has practice squad eligibility in 2014.
