Akers is an all time great kicker with great years in Philly. However, he really struggled in San Fran last season and was cut. He will replace Hanson. I do not think he will last the season.
Harvard Rutland Rookie UDFA 3 year contract

Trick shot artist gets a shot. He is left footed like Akers. He will not see action for Detroit in the regular season.
Punter
Sam Martin Rookie 5th round pick. 4 year contract
2013 Salary Cap Hit: $445,075
The Lions were awful at punting in 2012. They draft ther 1st punter since 1984. Martin has a strong leg and is a possible kickoff guy.
Blake Clingan Rookie Free agent 3 year contract
2013 Salary Cap hit: $405,000
Nope. He will not beat out a drafted punter. Audition for the rest of the league.
