Detroit Lions training camp preview Defensive Tackle

Starters

Suh 4th year 46 starts 22 sacks 137 tackles 1 int 1 fr 2 years left on contract
2013 salary cap hit: $10,492,500
W/L 19-28

An awesome year in 2012 for Suh. He ranked # 4 on the PFF DT list. 910 snaps 9 sacks 31 QB Hits.
His game vs. Houston was a great game for a DT. Suh rebounded from an average 2011 where he ranked #35 , he did rank #24 in 2010. I expect a great year for Suh.

Nick Fairley 3rd year 23 games 7 starts 49 tackles 6.5 sacks 2 FF 2 years left on hius contract
2013 salary cap hit: $2,696,500
W/L 8-15

A slow start to his career but once Corey Williams was injured Fairley took off. He was ranked # 5 by PFF at DT. 5 sacks 13 QBH 23 stops. His long arms ans strength give him an advantage. He should be trouble in 2013.

C.J. Mosley 9th year 1st in Detroit 98 NFL games 2 year left contract
2013 Salary Cap Hit: $1,025,000

Mose played his football in 2012 for the Jags. He ranked #15 for DT 624 snaps 3 sacks 22 stops 0 penalities. He ranked # 28 in 2011. He is a perfect piece for the the Lions, he will fit in the DT rotation. A good run stopper with surprising pass rush skills he will replace Sammie Lee Hill.

Israel Idonije 11th year 1st in Detroit. 134 NFL games last year on contract
2013 Salary Cap: $620,000

A nice late pick up for Detroit. Israel ranked # 12 at DE in 2012. He had 2 sacks vs. the Lions. A swing player he played 514 snals at DE and 212 snaps at DT. He had 7 sacks 31 hurries in 2012 for Chicago.
I think he will play mostly inside where is quickness is advantage vs. NFL guards.

Ogedmi Nwagbou 6th year 2nd in Detroit 1 game last year on contract
2013 salary cap hit: $630,000
W/L 0-1

O was signed late after injuries to Corey, Nick and SLH. He has size and experience. I think he will be the odd man out on the DL. He could be re-signed if there is an injury.

Jimmy Saddler-McQueen 4th year 2nd with Detroit 1 snap
2013 Salary Cap Hit: $480,000
W/L 0-1

JSM has bounced around the NFL for 4 years. That will continue I feel he has little chance for a spot on the squad. I believe he is not eligible for the practice Squad.

Spencer Nealey Rookie UDFA 3 years on his contract
2013 cap hit $405,000

Made it thru mini camp so he ahs a chance at the practice squad. The Lions usually keep 1 Dlineman on the squad.
