Lions kicker Jason Hanson retires after 21 season with the Lions. He played 327 games for the Lions most in NFL history with one team. He was taken in the 2nd round of the 1992 draft (pick #56). That year the Lions brought in Robert Porcher, Tracy Scrggins, Larry Tharpe and big play Willie Clay.

Detroit Lions host Michael Williams and Dion Sims in predraft visits

Lions bring in TE Michael Williams of Alabama to the Allen Park. Williams is a 3rd TE for an NFL team. He is a good blocker on the inside and has surprising hands for a big guy. He caught a TD for the South in the Senior Bowl. Williams was not invited to the combine.

Detroit Lions sign C.J. Mosley to a 2 year deal

Lions replace Sammie Hill with DT C.J. Mosley on 2 year $2.75 million deal. He ranked #15 at PFF for DT (Suh ranked #4, Nick #5, Jason Jones #27, Sammie Hill #24)

Mosley is a 9 year man out of Missouri. He has played for the Vikings, Jets, Browns and Jags. He has 12 career sacks and 5 forced fumbles. He is best remembered for hurting Stafford in 2009 for the Browns.

He will back up Nick and Suh.

Detroit LIons bring in Ohio State OT to Allen Park for a visit. I think Fragel is a right tackle in the NFL. I rate him 6.4 as rotational player and possible starter down the line. 4th round.

Detroit Lions draft preview WR Quinton Patton

Broke down some film (Utah State, Illinois, Texas A&M) plus Senior Bowl work on La Tech WR Quinton Patton. I like this guy, a perfect # 2 WR in the league.

Strengths: Runs good routes and knows how to get open. Excellent in the red zone. Will break tackles on the hitch route. Stronger than he looks and a handful in man coverage. Beat up on Utah State's Will Davis and Illinois CB Terry Hawthorne.

Weaknesses: Not a burner but plays faster than he times 4.53 at the combine.

Bottom Line: # 2 NFL receiver who will suprise with play making ability. His value is in the mid 2nd round. 6.8 rookie starter.

Discussion:

I think Cyprien has the most complete skill set. He can run support, play man and zone. Reid is an enigma with some bust risk. Vaccaro is overrated and an off the field risk. Elam is short and lacks centerfield experience. Williams is a linebacker while Rambo has off the field issues. McDonald could be real good in the right situation. Ray Ray looked like Sean Taylor early at Miami but did not finish his career.
