Detroit Lions draft preview LB Kevin Reddick and Jon Bostic
Broke down three films (NC State, Maryland, VA Tech) on UNC MLB Kevin Reddick.
Combine 6014 243 4.72 23 reps 906 broad 2012 85t 6.5 sacks.
Strengths: good inside blitzes. Can sift thru trash and get to the ball carrier. Made plays.
Weaknesses: misses a lot of tackles, limited range. Plays tackle to tackle. Cannot cover in zone.
Bottom line: Not a starter at LB. can be a backup and good special teams guy. 3-4 teams may like him better because he does blitz well from the inside. The Lions would need to take no sooner than the 5th round. Rating 6.1 back up with some upside.
Jonathan Bostic ILB Florida. I broke down two films (Vanderbilt and Ohio State 2011) and saw some themes in his play.
Combine:6010 245 4.61 22 reps 32.5"vj 906" broad 4.24 20 6.99 ldrill.
2012 68 t 3 sacks 2 int
Strength: real good measureables, plays for a good team in the SEC.
Weaknesses get blocked a lot. Does not make plays. Poor tape.
Bottom line: I was not impressed with this guy. He could not get off blocks. Would have to play outside for Detroit. I cannot project him as an NFL starter based on what I have seen. Rating 6 measureables but bad tape.

Detroit Lions draft preview CB Terry Hawthorne
Broke down some film on Illinois corner Terry Hawthorne (Ohio State, Penn State and the East-West game). This guy has some game. In 2012 he made 44 tackles and 1 pick.
Combine:6000 194 4.44 13 reps 35.5 Vj 9'8" broad.
Strengths he has NFL speed and run support skills. Can challenge guys in man coverage with his size and strong hands. I liked the way he tackled on the edge especially against Ohio State.
Weaknesses played in the Big Ten and was not challenged very much in the passing game. Did not show great play in zone coverage.
Bottom line this guy has NFL skill set. He can run and has size. He is most comfortable in man and will tackle. I rate him a 6.4 rotational player with starting capability in year 2-3. The Lions could draft this guy in the 4th round.
Detroit Lions draft preview DE Malliciah Goodman
Broke down some film on Clemson DE Malliciah Goodman (Auburn, LSU, Senior Bowl)
He had a nice year 7 sacks, 4 FF and 11tfl. He dominated LSU with a least 3 sacks and a huge PBU.
The combine: 6035 277 4.87 26 reps 31.5 Vj 906 broad.
Strengths: long arms and he plays hard. Has active arms that cause fumbles. Decent pass rusher. Does a good job slanting on twists.
Weaknesses: Not an elite pass rusher. Lacks a true burst. Does not make a lot of plays but when he does he causes fumbles.
Bottom line: Not a starter in the 4-3. Maybe a 4th end in a rotation. Could play the end in 3-4. The Lions should not draft this guy until the 5th or 6th round. Rating 6.1 rotational guy.

Detroit Lions draft preview DE/LB Jamie Collins
Took a look at two films (Western Kentucky, Nebraska) on Southern Miss OLB Jamie Collins. Collins played stand up OLB over the TE and down end for the 0-12 Eagles.
He blew up the combine 6033 250 4.64 40 19 reps 41.5" Vj 1108 broad 4.32 20 7.1 ldrill. His 1108 broad is a NFL combine record.
Strengths: Athletic freak with good motor. Will knockdown passes at the line and pursue the run. Can rush the passer.
Weaknesses: Struggles at the point of attack against the run. Raw skill set at rushing the passer.
Bottom line: Will have to play down for Lions. He reminds me of Cliff Avril. Rating 6.4 rotational with starting potential.
4th round
Detroit Lions draft preview OT Menelik Watson
Broke down a couple films (Miami and Northern Illinois) on FSU OT Menelik Watson. He is an interesting prospect. Played basketball at Marist and football at Saddleback JC before transferring to FSU.
He played right tackle for the Seminoles. The combine 6051 310lbs 5.29 40 24.5 VJ 807 broad 5.01 20 8.31 ldrill.
Strengths: Long arms and can move his feet. Good pass protector and finds defenders on the second level to block. Real good on the backside of zone plays.
Weaknesses: Not a thumper. does not finish blocks. Catches as little but does recover on the pass pro. Shows some confusion during plays.
Bottom Line: Not a real fit for the Lions power scheme. He needs a zone team with some patience to help him develop. I would be nervous about starting him 2013. 6.4 Rotational guy with starting potiential in year 2-3.

Detroit Lions draft preview CB Jamar Taylor
Broke down 4 films on Boise State CB Jamar Taylor (BYU, UNLV, MSU, Washington).
5106 192 4.39 22 reps 35" vj 1007 Broad 4.06 20 6.82 Ldrill
Strength: Played boundary corner for Boise and played it well. Is excellent at jam man and in cover 2 zone. Reacts well on the thrown ball and has strong arms for the strip. Shows good hands and run after the pick. Will support the run though is not a thumper.
Weakness: Saw a lot of taunting of opponents. Is not a tall guy.
Bottom Line: This is a good player. I think he can come in and be a top 3 corner for a team. I think he would be a nickle for Lions and special teams cover guy. Rating 6.5 solid rotational player, starter in year 2.

Detroit Lions draft preview CB Robert Alford
Broke down 4 films (Missouri, Midwestern State, Lamar, the Senior Bowl) on SE Louisiana CB Robert Alford.
Strengths good ball skills with 10 career interceptions. Most comfortable in press an but can play cover 2. Decent tackler with good reaction to run and pass. Excellent return man with good feel and speed. Has NFL measureables and played well at the Senior Bowl.
Weaknesses: not comfortable in off man. Committed a lot of penalties. Overaged at 24 years old. Missed a season with a neck injury.
Bottom line ready to contribute in the NFL. Most likely on special teams and maybe as a 3rd-4th CB. Has ability to start in his career and be a solid cover man.
Rating 6.4 solid rotation player with ability to start.
