The History of the Detroit Lions Bye Week

When I think of the bye week, I remember these:

Bye 2008, September 24, 2008 Lions Fire Matt Millen

The Lions had a record of 31-84 as a GM when he fired by William Clay Ford.

Martin Mayhew takes over. He put starting QB Jon Kitna on IR with back spasms. We ended starting the likes of Dan Orvolsky, Dante Culpepper and Drew Stanton.

We trade Roy Williams and a 7th for Brandon Pettigrew, Derrick Williams and Aaron Brown.

We go 0-16.

Charles Rogers breaks collarbone in a collision with Dre Bly. Rogers before the injury had 22 recpetions and 3 touchdowns. He scored only 1 more td in his career.

Denver holds a 6-4 record vs. the Lions. The last win in Denver was 11/7/1971

Jon Kitna threw for 252 and 2 td. Shaun Rogers had 2.5 sacks and a 66 yard int TD.

It is hard to remember when he cared.

You may recall the Lions with that win went 6-2. After that win they went 5-47.

Trouble at Defensive Tackle

The Lions have listed Nick Fairley and Sammie Hill as not practicing Wednesday and Thursday. If they are both out due to foot injuries that leaves only Andre Fluellen on the bench. Suh and Corey Williams would have to play a lot more snaps. Chasing Tebow around could be quite a task.

Lions playoff scenario

As Jim Mora once said: Playoffs?

I feel 10-6 gets us in.

At Denver    Win
At Chicago  Win
Carolina       Win
Green Bay     Loss
At Saints       Loss
Vikings         Win
At Oakland    Win
Chargers       Loss
At Packers    Loss

That is 10-6. We must win 3 on the road and hold serve vs. the Panthers and Vikings at home.

Gunther love for the D

Some great quotes by Lions Defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham:

On the loud crowds at Ford Field:
When I took my headset off last week, I couldn't hear myself think. I said, 'God bless Detroit.' I knew I liked these people, but I like them more now.

More of playing for the fans at Ford Field:
This town, this city, when you walk into that stadium, there's no place like in the United States. You all asked me how loud it was, and when I look up and see all those people - we play for that. You can believe that or not, but I'm telling you from my heart, every player on our team feels the same way. (We) have total respect for being here and being part of this. We're going to keep playing, we're going to keep bring it.
